Malnutrion in Cambodia
More than half of Cambodians live under the poverty line, battling to survive on sometimes less than $1 a day. Poverty is especially severe in rural and more inland areas and with children, who take up more than half of the country’s population.
Malnutrition is more than just hunger or a lack of food. It is a severe and often life-threatening medical condition caused by a diet that doesnt have in it, essential calories, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.
Babies and young children are particularly vulnerable to this particular disease if their mums are unable to produce enough food into their child's diet whilst feeding them off breast milk.
Children suffering from malnutrition have a very high compromised immune system and are 30 times more likely to die of a cureable illnesses like chest infections or diarrhoea etc. If malnutrition is left untreated, a child's physical growth and mental growth can become irreversiblely impaired, and in extreme cases they can lose their lives.
